Understanding Vertigo

What Causes Vertigo?

Radiating arm or leg pain is often referred from the neck or low back, where an irritated nerve root sends symptoms along its path — sciatica in the leg, or a pinched nerve in the neck causing arm and hand tingling. Joint problems in the shoulder, hip, knee or foot can also be the cause.

We test nerve function, joint movement and strength to tell the difference, because the care is very different depending on the source.

Care may combine chiropractic adjustments, registered massage, shockwave for stubborn tendons, custom orthotics for foot-driven leg pain, and athletic therapy to rebuild strength.

FAQ

Vertigo Questions

Can a chiropractor help with vertigo?2026-10-13T13:38:25+00:00

For BPPV, repositioning manoeuvres performed in-clinic may help. For neck-related dizziness, restoring upper-neck movement may reduce symptoms. We screen for other causes and refer when needed.

When should I see a doctor for dizziness?2026-10-13T13:38:26+00:00

Seek urgent medical care for dizziness with severe headache, chest pain, weakness, slurred speech, vision loss or fainting. We’ll refer you if anything in your assessment suggests a medical cause.

How many visits does BPPV take?2026-10-13T13:38:27+00:00

Many patients improve within one to three visits, though it can recur. We’ll show you what to do if it comes back.

Do I need a referral?2026-10-13T13:38:28+00:00

No. Chiropractors are primary care providers in Alberta, so you can book directly with our McKenzie Lake clinic.
