Understanding Disc Injuries
What Is a Disc Injury?
Between each pair of vertebrae sits a disc — a tough outer ring around a gel-like centre. A bulging disc means the ring has weakened; a herniated disc means some of the centre has pushed through. Either can irritate a nearby nerve and send pain into an arm or leg.
Many adults with no pain at all have disc bulges on imaging, so the picture matters less than how you move and what provokes your symptoms. We assess carefully before deciding on care.
Conservative care — gentle chiropractic techniques, registered massage and directional exercises — is the recommended starting point for most disc injuries.
